Course Overview
This is a thorough and engaging insight into Biology. The WJEC A level in Biology provides a wide breadth of knowledge which touches on many varied aspects of a range of topics. These include: Anatomy, Physiology, Ecology, Microbiology, Microscopy, Genetics and Biochemistry.

This specification is divided into a total of 5 units: 2 AS and 3 A Level units.
The AS Level Biology course consists of:
- Biology 1: Basic biochemistry and cell organisation
- Biology 2: Biodiversity and physiology of body systems
The A Level Biology course consists of:
- Biology 3: Energy, homeostasis and the environment
- Biology 4: Variation, inheritance and options
- Biology 5: Practical examination
All 5 units will be assessed by the WJEC exam board. Unit 5 is composed of two Practical Examinations completed in college under exam conditions. Once completed, you’ll achieve: AS Level Biology and A Level Biology along with many important transferrable skills.
To enrol, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs, Grade C or above, to include Grade B in Biology or Grade B in both Science and Additional Science, a Grade B in Maths/Maths Numeracy and English Language.
Higher education courses for which Biology may form part of the entry qualification, to include Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Biochemistry, Environmental Health, Genetics, Nursing, Optometry, Conservation, Ecology, Veterinary Science and Biotechnology.
Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above to include grade B in Biology or grade B in both Science and Additional Science, a grade B in Maths/Numeracy and English Language.
