As the electronics industry continues to grow worldwide, the demand for knowledge and skills within electronic engineering is high. If you’re working in the field and want to take the next step in your career, this part time Higher National Diploma (HND) course will help develop your capabilities.

There’s a mixture of theory (lectures and tutorials) and practice (practical workshops) through core modules in electronics, electrical machines, energy storage, and mathematics.
A project in the second part of the course develops your group working skills and you will produce a work based project.
The course is delivered through a range of lectures, tutorials and practical workshops and end of year exams.
You will study units including:
Year 1
- Business Improvement
- Energy Storage
- Advanced Electronics
Year 2
- Concepts of Analogue and Digital
- Power and Machines
- Project
Learners will be assessed via assignments, coursework and class tests, as well as preparing and delivering presentations to develop effective communication skills.
You need to have achieved a HNC in Electrical Engineering to apply for this course.
Potential careers:
The course will prepare you for a career within electronics, computing, electrical engineering, communications, or control systems and embedded systems. It also gives you the knowledge, practical skills, experience and confidence to study for an honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Normally, you would have to have at least one
of the following: Merit/Merit Profile DD Level 3
relevant BTEC at A Level.
DE grades at A Level and grade C in the Welsh
Baccalaureate.
Entry to HE where you have achieved a
Diploma of Passing with 45 Passes and:
Passes in three GCSE subjects at grade C or
above, including Mathematics and English
Language (or equivalent). Older students who
do not meet the academic qualifications, but
have relevant experience in their industry, will be
considered individually by interview.
As this is delivered in collaboration with University of South Wales (USW),upon completion, you can top up your qualification to a full BSc (Hons) degree with additional part time study.
