How to apply for an apprenticeship in 5 easy steps
Before you apply
The Apprenticeship programme in Wales is open to anyone who:
• Is aged 16 or over
• Is employed for at least 16 hours per week
• Is not in full-time education
Apprenticeships are fully funded, which means there’s no cost to you or your employer.
To be eligible:
• For a Level 2 Apprenticeship, you need to have been in your job for less than 6 months when you start.
• For a Level 3 or 4 Apprenticeship, you need to have been in your job for less than 12 months when you start.

Complete an application form
Once you’ve secured employment and found an apprenticeship you’re interested in, applying is quick and easy.
Before you start, make sure you have:
• Your employer’s company name and address
• A contact name
• Their phone number and email address
• Your proposed start date
You can apply for one apprenticeship at a time, so choose the one that best matches your role and click apply.
Use your personal email address so we can keep in touch and have your employer’s details ready. Fill in all the sections and hit submit when you’re done — it only takes a few minutes
If you’d like more information or have any questions, get in touch by emailing apprenticeships@coleggwent.ac.uk.

Conditional Offer
We’ll review your application and contact both you and your employer. If you meet the entry requirements and are eligible for an apprenticeship, we’ll email you a conditional offer.

Accept your offer
Your offer email will include instructions on how to accept your place.
Log in to CG Portal and follow the instructions in your offer email to accept your place.

Attend enrolment
Enrolment usually happens during the last two weeks of August.
We’ll email you your enrolment date and time – try to attend your allocated slot to secure your place.
You’ll meet your tutors, learn about your first classes, and find out how to access your timetable. It’s also a great chance to get familiar with the campus, meet other apprentices, and feel ready for September.

Start your apprenticeship
College starts in early September. You’ll receive an email to your college email address with your start date and details on how to view your timetable through the CG Connect app.
Timetables can take a few days to appear on CG Connect after enrolment, and they can change right up until term starts — so keep checking the app for updates.
NB: Hospitality and Catering apprentices, you don’t need to attend college in person, so you can start at any point in the year.
